How I got here.

I’m Andy Lafleur, Hunter College class of 2026, with a degree in Computer Science. I’ve been coding for five years. Most of that has been full-stack work in TypeScript, React, and Next.js, and web and app development is where I’ve gone deepest.

I started freelancing before I graduated. I wanted real experience rather than more coursework, and the fastest way to get it was to build things people were actually paying for and depending on. That taught me the parts school doesn’t cover: scoping a job, quoting a price, and telling a client when something needs another week.

What I like about this work is taking an idea and making it run. A client describes what they want, and my job is to find the one action that matters — book the workshop, join the organization, send the email — and clear everything out of the way of it. I build the whole path, interface through data, and I’d rather ship something small that works than demo something large that doesn’t.

I also build with agentic tooling, mainly Codex and Claude Code. It moves fast through the mechanical parts and leaves me more time on the decisions that need judgment — which is where the work actually is. I’m looking for a software engineering role where I can keep solving real problems for real users.
